Happy Halloween!
A couple of weeks ago, I returned to one of my favorite places to shoot timelapse in Colorado.
This abandoned grain elevator is fairly spooky on its own, but at night, it gets bathed in insane, sickly green light cast from a couple of sodium lamps from the rural post office down the road. In long-exposure shots, it doesn’t illuminate the landscape, so much as ooze over it, like toxic waste.
With Halloween fast-approaching, and given the surreal, other-worldly quality of the surroundings, I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to try out some ideas I had to experiment with weird editing and sound-design intended to disturb and unsettle the viewer. Y’know– scary stuff.
